Impact evaluation of the Skills@Leeds suite of digital resources
Impact evaluation of the Skills@Leeds suite of digital resources
Sophia Bourne (Careers Service) and Deborah Morton (Digital Education Service)
Project overview
We are creating a suite of resources (Skills@Leeds) to support students directly, and indirectly through their degree programmes. The suite comprises a skills diagnostic tool and a set of learning resources for six key skills: Reflection, Collaboration, Communication, Critical Thinking, Creativity, Decision-making. We aim to evaluate the impact of this first tranche of 6 units/packs on students’ learning experiences and outcomes, by engaging directly with students and staff within four programme pilots. We wish to engage student interns to enable us to consult with student and staff users of the resources to inform current resources development work, and the future direction and contents of the Skills@Leeds resource suite.
The research approach
We intend to use a variety of data collection methods: analytics from the skills diagnostic tool and skills units providing data on user demographics (faculty/school, level of study etc), time/frequency of access, link with career readiness, units most widely accessed, skills ratings - this data will help ascertain take-up, users and frequency; student circumstances and motivations, satisfaction and feedback on the resources and perceived educational gain through questionnaires. We then propose student focus groups (one per programme) and interviews with staff, within each programme, to explore utility, adaptability, and functionality. We will use qualitative methods to further explore the educational gains as reported by staff and students.
