Looking to try something different in the classroom during the next academic year? Open to discovering innovative, critically minded and cross-disciplinary approaches to Teaching & Learning? Interested in being part of a collaborative network of SoTL-invested colleagues?

If you have answered ‘yes’ to these questions, we invite you to join us as we put pedagogic innovation in the 'spotLITE'!

In the first session of spotLITE – our new occasional Teaching & Learning workshop series – we join Laura Loyola-Hernández (School of Geography) to engage with the pedagogic innovations she has implemented since completing her LITE research. In particular, you will be encouraged to engage with the concept of community and consider arts-based methods for fostering belonging in diverse learning spaces.

In this workshop, you will:

  • Learn about how Laura's LITE research into student belonging has informed the use of 'alphabet attacks' and posters in the classroom and wider module
  • Experience Laura's pedagogic innovations from a learner's perspective
  • Reflect upon your own practice, share how you could apply techniques from the session to your working context, and have a go at creating your own poster activity

Timings:

  • 12.30-13.15: Registration, a varied welcome lunch and networking with LITE Team/participants
  • 13.15-14.30: Collaborative workshop 'Community pedagogies in action' led by Laura Loyola-Hernández

This workshop is suitable for anyone who works in a student-facing teaching/training environment, including teaching academics, postgraduate teaching assistants, and relevant professional services colleagues. If you have any queries about this event, please contact Robert at R.Averies@leeds.ac.uk.

As it is not possible to deliver this session online, those unable to attend in person will have access to a reflective blog written by Laura and a workshop participant. This will be posted on the LITE Blog in the days after the workshop.

Places in this workshop are likely to go fast, so early booking is advised. If you are no longer able to come, please contact Robert so we can offer the space to someone else.
