Reverse Mentoring Celebration Event

Date
Date
Monday 12 June 2023, 2-4pm
Location
Clarendon Building SR (1.06) and on MS Teams

You are warmly invited to join students and staff from across campus to celebrate the end of our two year reverse mentoring project, which is part of Rachael O’Connor’s LITE Fellowship (you can read more about the project here).

Rachael will share an overview of the scheme and some initial reflections and we will hear from several student and staff presenters sharing their experiences of being part of the scheme and how it has impacted them, their practice and sense of under-representation. This event is a celebration of the last two years and all of the effort and energy these students and staff members have put into the project.

There will also be interactive elements where attendees can reflect on their own practices and staff/student relationships. We hope everyone will take something valuable away from the event that we can each act on in our own contexts, as well as having the opportunity to meet students and staff from across our campus.

A little background: In 2021/22, Rachael worked with a team of 15 students who self-identify as under-represented from 12 different disciplines across campus to co-design a reverse mentoring scheme. The aim of the scheme was to amplify under-represented student voices and to encourage staff and students to work collaboratively to come up with proposals for developing academic personal tutoring across our University. This year, the project designed by the student team ran across campus during semesters 1, 2 and 3, beginning with 19 pairs of staff and students, spanning over 20 different disciplines.

The event will held in hybrid format and refreshments, which will all be vegan, will be provided for in-person attendees. If you would like to attend, please complete this form - we would love for you to share in celebrating this wonderful community within our campus.
