RBL Network Event: Taught Postgraduate Research Project Supervisor Training Session. EVENT POSTPONED

Date
Date
Monday 30 March 2020, 13.30 - 14.30
Location
Research room 1, Edward Boyle Library, Level 13

SORRY, THIS EVENT HAS BEEN POSTPONED UNTIL A LATER DATE. Following on from our previous RBL training session on student project supervision, Academic Panel member Clare Wright will be delivering a workshop session aimed at staff supervising PGT dissertations and projects, with a particular focus on international students on one-year programmes. The session will be relevant to those new to the role of dissertation / student research project supervising or who have experienced some challenges in supervision and would like some support and direction.

The session will look at techniques for clarifying shared expectations between both students and supervisors, for delivering effective supervision out of standard term time, for facilitating the development of students as autonomous researchers within the limits of a 1-year programme.

The workshop will explore a number of non-subject discipline related themes such as relationship management, signposting to resources, working with different cultural perspectives and the importance of following ethical procedures. A number of case studies will be explored to encourage participants to share their experiences.

It is hoped that an outcome of the session will be ‘tips for best practice for staff new to supervising’ as well as the chance to share good practices (e.g. student/supervisor contracts).

Do you already have training resources for supervisors? If you are happy to share please send them through to Clare at c.e.m.wright@leeds.ac.uk .

Please send this invitation to members of your team who you think will be interested in attending – and who may not be part of the RBL Network.
