Assessment Matters workshop: Assessment and Feedback Cultures

Assessment and Feedback are crucial to both student and staff experiences of Higher Education. As we move beyond the COVID-19 pandemic, and begin to engage with the consequences of generative AI tools such as chatGPT, we need to reflect on what the purpose of assessment is, and how we can do it better. Curriculum Redefined gives us a great opportunity to develop better assessment practices and culture. In this session we'll be hearing from three colleagues about their approach to changing assessment at school and programme level, and discuss challenges and how to overcome them in changing our approaches to assessment and feedback.

In this workshop, we have three colleagues from across the University who will share their different experiences of working on and enhancing assessment and feedback cultures at Leeds:

J Simon Rofe from the School of Politics and International Studies & Centre for Online and Distance Education (CODE) Fellow will share reflections on the purpose and value of assessment to stakeholders in the HE Community across open, hybrid and online learning.

Charlotte Haigh from the School of Biomedical Sciences will explore embedding formative and summative synoptic assessment in the year 1 curriculum.

Samantha Pugh from the School of Physics and Astronomy will share about embedding competency-based continuous assessment into the Physics Curriculum.
