Chris Thompson

Chris Thompson is a Course Design Manager with the Digital Education Service (DES). He leads projects to create online and blended learning courses with academics from across the University.

As a learning designer, Chris guides and challenges academics to design innovative learner journeys through digital learning activities. He works with multimedia and learning technology professionals to develop effective educational video and meaningful learner interactions supported by digital technology.

His academic background is in comics studies in which he investigates the relationship between storytelling, content and audiences in comics. His interest in visual storytelling draws him both to comics and digital pedagogies, which extends his expertise in design for conversational learning, learning narrative and digital multimedia production for online education.

Chris has designed for a variety of postgraduate programmes, transition to university courses and online induction for taught postgraduates and postgraduate researchers. He is a specialist in Arena-Blended-Connected rapid learning design.

In 2018, he was awarded Senior Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy through the Professional Recognition in Student Education (PRiSE) scheme. He is currently leading a Teaching Enhancement Project at the Leeds Institute for Teaching Excellence (LITE) to empower academics and professional services staff to collaborate effectively on technology-enhanced learning projects.
