An experience design approach to cultivating a higher student engagement
An experience design approach to cultivating a higher student engagement

Project overview
The project intends to explore ways to increase engagement between post-graduate taught (PGT) students and academic staff in people-centred design activities to create a common ground. This can be done by evaluating the level of willingness that PGT students have in the change activities of Leeds Curriculum under Curriculum Redefined (CR). The project aims to identify two things: 1. The instructional/learning design expectations that students have with their PGT course in terms of curriculum and experiences, 2. Ways to increase their buy-in to the co-creation activities, people-centred approaches and learning design conversations supported by the Learning Design Agency.
The research approach
The first step is to look at what the student sees, what do they think, what are their expectations in the learning journey. For this, an initial data will be gathered from the students through ‘diary study’. Next step is to explore the current optimisable touchpoints in the web of interactions and negotiations that students face, via conducting a workshop for a learning journey map. This in turn will facilitate me to do an ideation on the kinds of design interventions that can allow a behaviour change in a mock-sprint session. Some suggested methods for this session would be role-play and use of VR based tools, allowing me to identify the potential changes to LDA’s design sprint strategy through participant feedback.
