David Gardner

David combines being Deputy Director with his role as Head of Learning Enhancement in the Student Education Service where he looks after a number of strategic projects focusing on enhancing the student experience.

A graduate of the School of Geography, David returned to the University in 1992 to work on ‘Enterprise in Higher Education’, a government initiative to encourage universities to embed skills development in the curriculum. This was the start of a career working with academic and service colleagues to formulate and implement a wide range of university-wide initiatives in student education, including the introduction of our virtual learning environment, the provision of social learning spaces and establishing our very successful Student Education Conference.

David was instrumental in establishing the Leeds for Life initiative, which focusses on the complementary benefit of the academic and co-curricular experience in developing the skills our students need to be successful both as students and as graduates. David has most recently been part of the team which designed and delivered the new Leeds Curriculum and helped to shape the concept and operational structure of the Institute.
